Clarendon is a development of six dwellings on a site with two street frontages. The brief for this project called for a maximum yield of three-bedroom townhouses of a comparable size.

The dwellings are arranged to address both street frontages. By consolidating car parking within car stackers that are accessed off a rear laneway, the area available for landscaping has been maximized which has allowed for generous gardens to surround the building.

The development relates to the immediate context through its form and scale. The hipped roof echoes the roofs of the surrounding houses and unifies the building’s overall composition. Alternating bands of brick and metal cladding have been used to impart a strong rhythm to the facades and to delineate individual dwellings. The external material palette emphasizes the textural qualities of each material and this in turn lends a subtle dynamism to the design.
