Birdsey is a proposal for three townhouses on a suburban block adjacent to a park. The brief for this project called for a cost effective, contextually appropriate design that would also maximize the development potential of the site.

The design proposes the retention of the existing dwelling and the construction of three new townhouses to the rear of the block. Achieving a high degree of privacy between the dwellings has informed the overall site arrangement and the location of doors, windows and outdoor areas.

Each townhouse incorporates a second storey within the roof line, to mitigate the scale of the dwellings within the surrounding single storey neighbourhood. In order to minimize building costs, the proposal utilizes a restrained palette of materials in standard sizes and consistent construction details throughout.
